After discovering DMEB-2 a couple of months ago, DK found herself writing again after a hiatus of several years, albeit in an entirely different style than before. Her previous writing experience had been limited to churning out child-friendly plays for a small family theatre and creating procedural documentation at work (as DK is an accountant, the word ‘stultifying’ may be inserted into that last phrase). The stories on this site represent her first attempts at a short story format, and she humbly thanks She Who Must Be Obeyed and her Minions of Evil for allowing her to play in their sandbox. She also thanks Professor Fate for beta-reading and allowing me many hours of bouncing ideas off his patient skull. Star Wars was first released when DK was at the impressionable and libidinous age of 14-going-on-15, and as a result, her Star Wars of the mind has always included a lot of adult material. This fact, combined with a dislike of much of the EU and non-movie canon means that her Darth Maul and other SW characters tend to deviate a fair distance from those imagined by others, including, sadly, Mr. Lucas himself. This is also the reason she lost interest in the franchise for a number of years, that and the feeling of betrayal after TPM when GL introduced then promptly killed off her two favorite characters yet created in the SW universe. She rediscovered the interest upon a recent re-viewing of the films, and subsequently found DMEB-2 while innocently searching for desktop wallpaper. DK’s Darth Maul is notable for extreme practicality and ruthlessness, self-indulgent only when it does not interfere with those first two traits, unsentimental, unromantic, and a sexual opportunist. In the “Contingency” alternate histories, he prefers to wield the power and freedom of a kingmaker rather than being bound to the Big Chair itself. For the record, DK would cheerfully spend a few naked hours with Maul, so long as there was a clear path to the exit. She would not, however, have any interest in cozy conversation over bagels and espresso the next morning. Some things should stay in the dark. |
