John Stewart is a self taught artist, who’s never had any sort of art training what-so-ever. He has a profound interest in science-fiction and horror. John says he grew up with Star Wars, and developed an interest in the character of Maul only when he read the book, ‘Shadow Hunter,’ by Michael Reaves.

In John’s own words: “After seeing Episode 1, I quess I was pretty impressed with the fight sequences and such, but the character of Maul didn’t have that much appeal to me. Mainly because he, frankly, wasn’t that interesting a character in the film. I mean, he had only one or two actual speaking scenes and it seemed like he was just a background figure, more than a crucial character.”

“However, upon reading Reaves’ novel; getting inside his head and finding out what makes him the way he is, I just thought to myself This is the coolest villain I’ve ever encountered. This is a character with a lot of depth and soul to who he is and what his purpose in life is.”

This picture was done in ink and pastels.
